The third edition of the expert seminar hosted by the 2020 Cognitive Intelligence Research Institute of Global Tone Communication Technology Co., Ltd. (GTCOM) was held in Beijing on January 12, 2019. Cheng Guogen, the chief technology officer of GTCOM, Zhao Tiejun, a professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology and director of the 2020 Cognitive Intelligence Research Institute, and experts from many domestic top universities and scientific research facilities--including the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beihang University and Tianjin University--attended the seminar, where they conducted in-depth discussions on the core technologies of key research directions such as machine translation, knowledge graphing, natural language processing, and financial technology big data, actively promoting project cooperation and realizing the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

At the meeting, Mr. Cheng expressed his gratitude to the experts for their presence and affirmed the practice of the meeting to solve key research topics in a practical and down-to-earth manner through the implementation of specific projects. He said in his concluding speech that the application of big data and knowledge graphing, the creation of innovative technological platforms and financial big data are the key directions for the company's business development in 2019, and that machine translation, knowledge graph and machine writing will be the focus of the 2020 Cognitive Intelligence Research Institute. Thus, the advancement of these business directions and research topics is reliant on the technical achievements made by the institute and its experts. Accordingly, in the future the company will provide more support for experts in capital, computing resources, data, language experts, engineering and other aspects.
Li Xinjie, the senior director of the 2020 Cognitive Intelligence Research Institute, mentioned that the meeting started with business and focused on solutions to practical problems. Therefore, the experts were asked to form teams with which to capitalize on their advantages in scientific research and help the institute solve specific problems in regard to machine translation, knowledge graphing, natural language processing and other fields. Mr. Zhao Tiejun and other experts and scholars, based on their expertise in scientific research, expressed their understanding of the project tasks and proposed specific solutions. Consequently, through in-depth exchanges with research institutions on key tasks, the institute will maximize the integration of the advantages of industries, universities and research institutions, whereby it will achieve the industrialization and value of the latest scientific research results.
Mr. Zhao elaborated on the task of "extracting elements of financial events," and briefly explained the representation of events and the concept of event extraction in NLP. He pointed out the difficulties and problems faced by the current extraction of financial events, and proposed preliminary solutions to these issues. He also described the strong technological accumulation of Harbin Institute of Technology on this subject. Yan Yonghong, from the Institute of Acoustics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, described the application of speech recognition, natural language processing and big-data analysis to the field of customer service, the application scenarios of voice-quality inspection systems, and the main problems to be solved. Zhang Peng, from Tsinghua University, introduced the task of cross-language entity linking, pointed out the current challenges and put forward his own technical framework for the problems and final targets to be achieved. He also shared the university's research and technological accumulation in cross-language entity linking, entity disambiguation and other technical aspects.
Experts from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beihang University, Dalian University of Technology, Tianjin University, Shanxi University and other universities and research institutes shared their latest explorations and achievements in subjects such as figure portrait, machine writing, emotion tendency analysis for specific objects, field word segmentation and translation quality evaluation.
